Le coton recyclé est obtenu en effilochant des chutes de production ou des textiles usagés pour en refaire du fil. Ses fibres sont plus courtes que celles du coton neuf : il est souvent mélangé à du coton neuf, bio ou à du polyester recyclé. Pré-consommation ou post-consommation
Le coton recyclé « pré-consommation » vient des chutes de coupe des ateliers ; le coton « post-consommation », de textiles déjà utilisés. Dans les deux cas, il remplace une partie du coton neuf.
Le tote bag, usage phare
Une grande partie de nos objets en coton recyclé sont des sacs : tote bags, sacs cadeaux, sacs de courses. Dans notre base produits, l'empreinte médiane estimée d'un tote bag en coton recyclé est de 409 g CO₂e, la plus basse des tote bags (méthode).
GRS : la certification de référence
Le GRS garantit au moins 20 % de matière recyclée (50 % pour le logo), une traçabilité tout au long de la chaîne et des critères sociaux. 18 objets de cette page mentionnent une certification.
Questions fréquentes
Le coton recyclé est-il bio ?
Non, ce sont deux choses différentes : « bio » décrit la culture du coton, « recyclé » l'origine de la fibre. Certains produits mélangent les deux.
Le coton recyclé est-il moins résistant ?
Ses fibres plus courtes sont renforcées par mélange. Le grammage, en g/m², indique la tenue du tissu.
